Meet Don Yelton

THE FOLLOWING HAS BEEN CREDITED TO ABRAHAM LINCOLN BUT HERE IS ANOTHER LOOK AT WHO SAID THE QUOTES. REGARDLESS OF WHO SAID THEM THEY ARE VERY APPLICABLE TO TODAY.
The quotes were published in 1942 by William J. H. Boetcker, a Presbyterian minister. He released a pamphlet titled Lincoln On Limitations, which did include a Lincoln quote, but also added 10 statements written by Boetcker himself. They were:
1. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. 2. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong 3. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich. 4. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. 5. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence. 6. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men. 7. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. 8. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. 9. You cannot establish security on borrowed money. 10 You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they will not do for themselves.
Don Yelton has knowledge in many different, diverse fields. His experiences in planning, design, sales and marketing, development of new concepts and implementation of programs in water quality management, environmental planning, food distribution, and personnel were necessary to be able to live in Western North Carolina.
Don Yelton will continue to work to communicate new ideas and concepts to all people. He will also listen to others views but defend his position and challenge the other view.
With Don Yelton, you know where you stand and where he stands. He does have the ability to listen and evaluate all of the information he hears, sometimes seeking more information from all parties involved. It is this desire for information that threatens the local Democratic Party Machine or group of Power Brokers that "attempt to operate in the dark of the night or back room deals".
Don Yelton will continue to work to accomplish the following:
1. Don wants to see a 24-hour hot line for citizens to be able to get their questions answered.
2. He will continue to push for elimination of meetings at the same time for City Council and County Commissioners.
3. He has provided a an outlet for the average citizen to get their messages and problems out to the people.
4. Mr. Yelton's efforts have saved the City of Asheville millions of dollars and is working hard to get paper recycling programs implemented in Buncombe County.
5. To promote recycling, it is essential to provide a reward for those who recycle. We must develop the mobile home graveyard, salvage all materials possible from construction and demolition waste. Using prison labor as much as possible will save the taxpayers money. This will help to offset the cost of detention center operations. The Vision Benchmark reports that Buncombe County's generation of solid waste increased 20 percent since 2000!
6. Your taxes and water rates must be fair and equitable.
7. Annexation is not the answer but accountability is the way to manage growth. Each time the City of Asheville extends its boundaries, density is reduced, increasing the cost of providing services. Annexation is not the answer; it is a way to fund a second layer of government. The Citizens must demand leadership in tri-bottom line accounting to solve this big problem for all residents of both the County and City.
What Don Yelton suggested that the
County has done later not sooner.
One stop shopping for permits for home building and mobile home set up.
Paper recycling (but without additions cost as current program)
Mobile home reycling (but County has done it on a limited basis)
Selling scrap metal from landfill instead of paying to get it removed.
note these measures saved the county money or made them money. But they continue to pay to have paper removed. The system I implemented took no extra labor.
